Evernight by Claudia Gray

First, I am kicking myself in the butt for not sticking around the Brooklyn Book Festival long enough to meet Claudia Gray, Libba Bray and M.T. Anderson. I decided to leave it early and get back home to the young ones. All the books I've read by these authors have been great.

Evernight Book 1 by Claudia Gray
  • Reading level: Young Adult
  • Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: HarperTeen; 1 Reprint edition (February 10, 2009)
  • Language: English
  • ISBN-10: 0061284440
  • ISBN-13: 978-0061284441

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little slow up until about page 140 and then it's like WHAT!?!?! Totally surprised me. I almost felt deceived. The rest of the book was more fast paced and fun to read and the ending left me wanting the second book in the series, STARGAZER. Honestly it took me a little while to warm up to Bianca, but she is a likable character. She just didn't come off as very interesting until that "holy crap" moment. I'd have to say Balthazar is my favorite character. I hope we see more of him in Stargazer.

From ClaudiaGray.com because I haven't yet had a cup of coffee (in my Elvis Presley mug, btw)

The Evernight series, four books coming from HarperCollins beginning in May 2008, follows the story of Bianca Olivier.

When the story begins in Evernight, Bianca has just left the small town where she's spent her whole life. She's a new student at Evernight Academy, a creepily Gothic boarding school where her classmates are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.

Then she meets Lucas, another loner, who seems fiercely determined not to be the "Evernight type." There's a connection between Bianca and Lucas that can't be denied. She would risk anything to be with him—but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart... and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed to be true.

I'm glad you liked it!

Balthazar is my favorite too! And yes, we see more of him in Stargazer! He's awesome! :)

Did you get Stargazer too?

I didn't get Stargazer, but I wish I had. I bought 7 or so books from the Book Festival and I figured it was enough to get me started. I will be getting it soon though, as well as the third book in May!

Right now I'm reading the first three books in the Luxe series and then I have Wintergirls and Sisters in Sanity to read, as well as two adult titles.

I think I made the right choice to reserve a copy of Evernight - I should have bought it the moment I saw the clerk unloading the books. I've been reading nice reviews of this. Now I'm excited!

You won't be disappointed, Jacke. Like I said, it was a little slow in the beginning, but well worth the wait for that explosive moment where it all comes together.
