Jealous whispers. Old rivalries. New betrayals.

Two months after Elizabeth Holland's dramatic homecoming, Manhattan eagerly awaits her return to the pinnacle of society. However, when she refuses to rejoin her sister Diana's side, those watching New York's favorite family begin to whisper that all is not as it seems behind the stately doors of No. 17 Gramercy Park.

In this thrilling installment of Anna Godbersen's bestselling Luxe series, Manhattan's most envied residents appear to have everything they desire: Wealth. Beauty. Happiness. But sometimes the most practiced smiles hide the most scandalous secrets. . . .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see from my last post, I finished this entire novel in a days time. It's amazing.
The one thought on my mind right now, as I've just closed the book, is: DIANA HOLLAND ROCKS! I loved her from the first book but now, AH! She's incredible. The characters in this book are fantastic. I believe they've each had their chance to shine in this one. You can't help but love even the least favorable characters. So many things come together and fall apart in ENVY and the ending leaves you hungry for the final chapter, SPLENDOR.

I don't want to give spoilers, but I want to talk about what I thought of certain parts of the book...All I can say without ruining anything is that I seriously cried for Elizabeth. Waterworks. Wow. Bravo, Anna Godbersen. Not many books can touch me like that.

Second, Henry is more of a man than I gave him credit for. Not that I don't love him, but he's made some very serious mistakes as far as Diana is concerned, and I think this last act is finally going to atone for them. I feel bad for Grayson, but I'm sure something will happen for him. As for Penelope..ugh..Lina, in the end though she proved to be pretty ruthless herself, got what I felt she deserved. Or at least, what she tried so hard to achieve. I'm actually happy for her. And I do hope to see more of Teddy Cutting in SPLENDOR, the fourth and I believe final, book in the series. I'm hoping to make the trip to the book store this afternoon to purchase it.

Product Description from Amazon

After bidding good-bye to New York's brightest star, Elizabeth Holland, rumors continue to fly about her untimely demise.

All eyes are on those closest to the dearly departed: her mischievous sister, Diana, now the family's only hope for redemption; New York's most notorious cad, Henry Schoon-maker, the flame Elizabeth never extinguished; the seductive Penelope Hayes, poised to claim all that her best friend left behind—including Henry; even Elizabeth's scheming former maid, Lina Broud, who discovers that while money matters and breeding counts, gossip is the new currency.

As old friends become rivals, Manhattan's most dazzling socialites find their futures threatened by whispers from the past. In this delicious sequel to The Luxe, nothing is more dangerous than a scandal . . . or more precious than a secret.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This book is even better than the first. I just closed the back cover and I'm about to start reading the third book in The Luxe series, ENVY. I HAVE to know what happens next! I love the style in which these books are written. Anna Godbersen is a brilliant writer. She pays careful attention to every detail making the reader feel like she's right there.

I'm not at all surprised at Penelope and what she's done, but I am disappointed in Lina. And I cried for Elizabeth and Diana :( but I'm glad that Elizabeth has returned to NY and I can't wait to see how she's changed.

Product Description from Amazon

Have you ever had the out-of-control dream? The one where you know you're not crazy, but no one around you—not your parents, not your teachers, not even the authorities—will listen to you?

For sixteen-year-old Brit Hemphill, the out-of-control dream comes true when her dad enrolls her at Red Rock, a bogus treatment center that claims to cure rebellious teen girls. At Red Rock, Brit is forced into therapy, and her only hope of getting her life back is in the hands of an underqualified staff of counselors. Brit's dad thinks Red Rock can save her, but the truth is it's doing more harm than good.

No girl could survive Red Rock alone—but at a treatment center where you earn privileges for ratting out your peers, it's hard to know who you can trust. For Brit, everything changes when she meets V, Bebe, Martha, and Cassie, four girls who keep her from going over the edge. Together they'll hold on to their sanity and their sisterhood while trying to keep their Red Rock reality from becoming a full-on nightmare.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This book is about sisterhood. It's about believing in yourself and taking a stand for what you know is the right thing. Brit, V, Bebe, Cassie and Martha form a sisterhood in the secret confines of an empty office when the "goons" at Red Rock--a school for misguided teen girls--turn their backs. Together, the girls learn the ins and outs of Red Rock. They learn to survive it and they learn to rely on each other.

Sisters in Sanity is not a typical coming-of-age tale but the reader follows Brit through her stay at Red Rock where she discovers who she is and what she's made of. It's well written, an easy and entertaining read that can make you laugh one minute, cry the next and be fuming with anger when you turn the page again. The characters are unique, full of individuality and life. You feel like you're right there with them in the quarry, building walls or hiking up the hills in 90 degree heat. You can't help but feel like a part of their sisterhood.

Thank you, Gayle Forman--author of IF I STAY-- for writing this book. I plan on gifting it to my "Sisters".

“We held hands when we walked down the gingerbread path into the forest, blood dripping from our fingers. We danced with witches and kissed monsters. We turned us in to wintergirls, and when she tried to leave, I pulled her back into the snow because I was afraid to be alone.” WINTERGIRLS, page 99

This book brought a lot of controversy. It was banned from several schools by concerned parents/educators but now that I've read it for myself, I see how it could be helpful for girls like Lia and Cassie, rather than harmful. (Not that I thought it was harmful to begin with) WINTERGIRLS allows the reader to explore dark thoughts and fears from a safe corner in her own bedroom. You feel what Lia feels and you understand why she does what she does. I even looked at my pizza differently last night, but I still ate three slices. For girls (or boys) who are in similar situation as Lia, this book might just be the sort of awakening they desire to find the help they need. Or, it could just be a source of great entertainment, like it was for me.

It's beautiful, inside and out. The hardcover is gorgeous (and I do recommend you get it in hardcover, it's one of those). The metaphors that Anderson uses are so vivid and strong, you can't help but read passages like the above over and over. I highly recommend this book to any and everyone; young, old, male, female. Doesn't matter. It's one of those that shouldn't be missed.

Teen Read Week and The Luxe.

In honor of teen read week, and having just finished THE LUXE, I took the "Who is your Luxe boy" quiz @ http://www.harperteen-theluxe.com/luxe.html and my result is Will Keller. As for girls, my results say I am Diana Holland, who happens to be my favorite ;)

About Teen Read Week

Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Teen Read Week started in 1998.

Why is it important to celebrate? For a lot of reasons! Teens have so many options for entertainment, so it's important to remind them to spend time reading for pleasure: it's free, fun, and can be done anywhere! Research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce. Also, it’s a great chance to let your school or your public library communities know how important teen services are! Let teens know the possibilities that exist within your doors, and within the covers of books.

If you have other questions, please take a look at our most frequently asked questions or email YALSA.
